Ryan Day gave the update Buckeye Nation will want to hear on Ohio State's offensive coordinator. Former NFL head coach Arthur Smith has hit the ground running with the Buckeyes.
The Ohio State football team was tasked with an important job of replacing OC Brian Hartline this offseason. Like Day did when Ohio State replaced Jim Knowles with Matt Patricia, the Buckeyes went back to the NFL to replace Hartline.
Arthur Smith as the offensive coordinator to combine with Ryan Day's passing game is an intriguing idea in Columbus. The Buckeyes should once again have a good offense led by Jeremiah Smith, Bo Jackson, and Julian Sayin.
Day appeared on a recent airing with Josh Pate and gave what should be taken as a positive update on Ohio State's offensive coordinator.
"It's been great to see someone like Matt Patricia come in and just really embrace the culture, embrace the fanbase," Day said. "You're seeing his personality come out. Arthur Smith is doing the same thing. He's really worked hard on building relationships really from when he walked right in the building with the staff, then with the players."
Ryan Day expressed confidence in Arthur Smith's ability to lead the Buckeyes' offense, highlighting his NFL experience as a significant asset.

We all know Patricia was a major success for the Buckeyes last season. Ohio State had one of the best, if not the best, defenses in the country last season. If Ohio State can find even a good part of the success Patricia was able to come in and have on the offensive side, the hire of Smith is a big win for the team.
It's been since 2010 when Smith was an intern at Ole Miss that he's worked at the college level. Smith is a veteran NFL offensive coordinator, he brings head coaching experience from his time with the Atlanta Falcons. The fact that Smith has had no issues fitting in with the Buckeyes and building relationships already is important.
Smith is just 43 years old and Ohio State likely won't have him around for long before he gets an opportunity elsewhere as long as he has success. If everything goes to plan for Ohio State's offense, this could be a Chip Kelly situation where Smith earns a bigger opportunity after one year with the Buckeyes.
