Alvin Kamara has been a franchise cornerstone for the New Orleans Saints for nearly a decade, but the veteran running back's play has declined over the last few years, leading to questions about his future with the team.
Though Kamara has expressed interest in playing for the Saints in 2026, it doesn't make much sense to keep him on the roster. New Orleans signed Travis Etienne to a lucrative four-year deal to be the new top running back, and also still has Kendre Miller and Devin Neal on the roster.

The Saints should consider Kamara as an expendable asset, and Bleacher Report's Moe Moton has an NFC team as one of the top suitors for the 5-time Pro Bowler.
While discussing post June 1 trade candidates around the league, Moton floated the Dallas Cowboys as a potential landing spot for Kamara in a trade with the Saints.
Dallas is set to have Javonte Williams return as their starting running back in 2026. Williams had a breakout 2025 campaign with 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns on 4.8 yards per carry, along with two scores through the air. The 26-year-old's play earned him a three-year extension from the Cowboys.
Behind Williams, the Cowboys have Malik Davis and 2025 sixth-round pick Jaydon Blue. Though Davis is a fine backup, Dallas is looking for Blue to blossom into a nice complement to Williams after a rough rookie season, where the Texas product was a healthy scratch for most games and rushed for an inefficient 129 yards.
If the Cowboys aren't confident in Davis and Blue as the depth behind Williams in the backfield, trading for Kamara could become a possibility. Though the 30-year-old has lost some explosiveness, Kamara would pair well with Williams due to his ability to contribute in the passing attack.
2025 was a rough season for Kamara in all accounts, as he was inefficient on the ground and didn't do much through the air. However, just two years ago, in 2024, the Tennessee product had nearly 1,500 scrimmage yards and was a dazzling playmaker across the board.
Obviously, if Dallas acquires Kamara, they shouldn't expect the player he was a half decade ago when the 2017 third-round pick was selected to five straight Pro Bowls to begin his career. But the Cowboys would be getting a top-tier receiving back who would take some pressure off Williams and add another element to Brian Schottenheimer's offense.
However, it still seems unlikely that a trade involving Kamara to the Cowboys will happen, as Dallas is already short on late-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. But we've seen crazier moves happen, so only time will tell.
