Golfer Sam Burns was nearly a football player.
His family has a background in football, with both his father and older brother playing for Louisiana Tech. Burns played football alongside golf throughout middle school, trying to appease his family while realizing his passion for golf. His mother loved Friday night football and wanted him actually to pursue football rather than golf.
Burns held strong and even convinced his parents to put in a putting green in their backyard so he could practice when he wasn't playing football. He chose golf and hasn't looked back, turning pro in 2017.

Burns and Campbell have known each other almost their entire lives. They met at church in Shreveport when they were just five years old. She said in an interview, "We've really known each other forever. I was his first Valentine when we were five years old." While they met when they were five, they obviously didn't become a couple then. They went to different high schools, but reconnected when they both attended LSU.
The couple dated for four years, and Burns popped the question on April 19, 2019. It feels fitting for a golfer, but he chose to propose during the RBC Heritage Tournament, when the couple was walking to dinner one night.
They were engaged for about six months and tied the knot on December 14, 2019.

Burns and Campbell have one child together, with another on the way. Their first son, Bear, was born in April 2024. The couple's second child is expected to be born in July 2026.
Burns's firstborn was born in April 2024 and is around two years old. He frequently steals the show whenever he is featured on Instagram, including as a makeshift caddie and on his first Halloween, where he appropriately went as a bear.
In a 2026 episode of "Live From the Masters," host Todd Lewis discussed that Burns and Campbell already had one child, and that they are expecting another.
He said, "Caroline, Sam Burnsâ wife, well, theyâre about to have their second child as well, and they already have a boy. His name is Bear. We will find out in July when the baby is born."
Todd played football at Louisiana Tech and is an avid hunter, taking Sam on trips when he was a child.
After leaving football, the elder Burns went into business and opened "Time-It Lube," a quick-lube chain that eventually grew to 28 locations in Louisiana and Texas. He eventually sold the company to Valvoline in 2017.

Burns mother, Beth, wanted her son to play football instead of golf. It was the sport both his father, Todd, and brother, Chase, played. About this desire, she wrote in the "Mom's Blog" for the Shreveport Times in 2015, "I once wanted Sam to play football instead of golf, but after Sam decided to play golf instead and I started going on trips with them and meeting the parents and meeting the boys that actually played with him, I was like, 'Oh my gosh, what was I thinking?'"
She met her husband, Todd, while both were at Louisiana Tech, and Todd was playing for the football team.

Chase is the one who introduced Sam to golf. The two were in the backyard growing up, and the older Chase handed the four-year-old Sam an eight-iron, and the two had their first golf lesson. Reportedly, Sam's first swing went 70 yards, absolutely stunning Chase and his father, Todd.
Not much is known about Chase's personal life outside of the fact that he played football at Louisiana Tech. According to his LinkedIn, he was a manager at Time-it Lube, but it doesn't show when the profile was last updated.
Tori is Burns' older sister. Aside from that, not much is known about her, as she does a good job of staying out of the public eye.
