The Minnesota Vikings drafted offensive lineman Caleb Tiernan to improve their run game. Tiernan, who played tackle in college, is expected to transition to guard or center in the NFL.
The Minnesota Vikings needed help stopping the run. They started fixing it when they drafted Caleb Banks in Round 1, and they added a linebacker in Jake Golday. But it turned out they weren't done there as they selected the star defender of the Iowa State Cyclones, Domonique Orange.
But what about creating better running chances for their own team? They laid the foundation for that where they took Northwestern offensive line, Caleb Tiernan. He played tackle in college but he is likely to move inside to guard or center in the NFL.
For more specifics on Tiernan, all we have to go on is what the film has shown us, and we have some notes from Lance Zierlein's scouting reportto share.
Zierlein writes, "Highly experienced college tackle who is likely to kick inside due to a lack of length that affects his protection projection. Tiernan is tall but carries the denseness of frame and core strength of a guard. Feet feature good initial quickness and he takes excellent angles on the move. He often finds early positioning advantages as a base blocker but lacks the anchor and play strength to consistently fortify/sustain."
Tiernan could backup either Will Fries at guard or Blake Brandel at center. One could even argue he could compete with BRandel if they decide to move him all the way in. Regardless, this is a nice depth piecve for the Vikings.
