The Seattle Seahawks are one of only three NFL teams that have never had the first overall pick in the draft. They will be selecting at pick No. 32 in the upcoming 2026 draft, a position they have only held once before in franchise history.
The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for the 2026 NFL draft and they have what is ultimately the most coveted spot in the first round: pick No. 32, which is reserved for the Super Bowl champion. This will mark only the second time in franchise history Seattle will be picking at this spot, which twice more than they've ever picked at the No. 1 spot.
Yes, that is right: the Seahawks have never once picked No. 1 overall in franchise history. They are one of only three teams in the entire league, including the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos, to have never had this distinct "honor."
Even in the first year of existence, the 1976 season where the Seahawks were a fledgling expansion franchise, they weren't even the No. 1 overall pick. That year, they took Notre Dame defensive tackle Steve Niehaus. However, fast forward to the 1993 NFL draft, Seattle likely wished they were picking No. 1 instead. That year, the New England Patriots had the top spot and they selected Washington State's own Drew Bledsoe. The Seahawks took another Notre Dame prospect, quarterback Rick Mirer.
Mirer eventually flamed out after four unproductive years in the Pacific Northwest, while Bledsoe would go on to be a four-time Pro Bowler and eventual Super Bowl champion. Still, it is remarkable the Seahawks have not gotten closer than No. 2 overall. They did pick No. 3 in 1997, but that's the highest they've ever gotten on their own since Rick Mirer.
