But if all goes according to plan, King will soon be in the major leagues for their NL East rival, the Washington Nationals.
King is a 23-year old shortstop in the Nats' system, a 2024 first-round pick out of Wake Forest.
He's rising fast through the minor leagues, playing about as well as he ever has since being drafted.

This season, King is 23 games into his time at Double-A Harrisburg, and he's batting .292 with a .928 OPS.
In 89 at bats, he already has seven doubles, one triple and four home runs. He's driven in 20 runs and scored 22 times. He also has three stolen bases, and he's got a relatively positive 24 strikeouts to 17 walks ratio.
The Nats sent King to repeat Double-A after he played 80 games there last season and batted .233, so his adjustments and improvements are a very good sign.

There were already positive vibes around King from his time in the 2025 Arizona Fall League, in which he hit .359 with a 1.031 OPS.
The Nationals have C.J. Abrams at shortstop at the major league level, and although things can change, there's a chance King ends up playing some second base when he first reaches MLB -- he has appeared in three games at that spot for Harrisburg so far this season, playing most of his time at shortstop still.
It's safe to expect King to get a promotion to Triple-A Rochester at some point this summer if he keeps performing well, and that'll leave him just a call away from the big leagues.
It'd be fitting if his first game in MLB was against the Mets.
