Gabe Dynes, a 7-foot-4 center, is set to visit Kentucky as part of his recruitment process. He previously played for USC and is also considering Louisville, with only one season of eligibility remaining.
Gabe Dynes is a familiar name in Kentucky Wildcats basketball circles. The 7-foot-4, 214-pound center honed his skills in the Bluegrass State, emerging as a standout player at Simon Kenton High School in Independence. This past season with the USC Trojans, he participated in 30 games and started six, averaging 2.9 points on an impressive shooting percentage of 78.8%, though he struggled with free throws at 35.3%. Additionally, he contributed 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in just under 12 minutes per game.
Now, Dynes finds himself at the center of a competitive recruitment battle between two elite college basketball programs: Kentucky and Louisville. He is scheduled to visit Lexington on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Louisville the next day. With other suitors also in the mix.
One of Dynes’ most memorable performances came when he scored 14 points (6-for-7 shooting), along with five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and one steal during a commanding 87-67 victory over Illinois State. Prior to his time at USC, he spent two seasons at Youngstown State before making the transfer this past offseason.
With only one season of eligibility remaining, Dynes faces an important decision about his future. Kentucky currently has Moreno and Potter on its roster as true centers—will Dynes choose to join them or seek a program where he can take on a more prominent role? Regardless of his choice, Mark Pope and the Wildcats are eager for continued momentum as the transfer portal closes tomorrow. Although commitments are not required until after entering their names into the portal, there will still be plenty of action ahead that warrants attention from fans and analysts alike.
