Seven Inter-Valley Conference schools have agreed to mutually withdraw from the IVC at the conclusion of the 2027-28 school year, according to a joint news release sent by Strasburg athletic director Gary Spinell.
The schools that will be leaving are: Brown Local Schools (Malvern High School), Conotton Valley Union Local Schools, East Guernsey Local Schools (Buckeye Trail), Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools, Osnaburg Local Schools (East Canton), Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools and Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
All schools currently reside in the Northern Division of the IVC.
"This decision reflects our collective desire to ensure the very best experience for our student-athletes. By coming together, we believe we can create a future that strengthens opportunities, supports competitive balance, reduces travel demands, and enhances the overall student experience," said in the news release. "We are incredibly grateful for the relationships, rivalries, and traditions built within the Inter-Valley Conference. The experiences shared with fellow member schools have had a lasting impact on our student-athletes, coaches, and communities, and we will always value the friendships and respect developed over the years."
According to the news release, a new athletic league with all seven schools will begin play in the 2028-29 school year with the potential of other schools joining.
The announcement comes a few months after three other IVC schools announced their departure from the league to join the newly formed Northeast Senate League. The league will include eight schools: Carrollton, Claymont, Fairless, Marlington, Minerva, Sandy Valley, Tuscarawas Valley and Tuslaw.
The two announcements leave Ridgewood, Garaway, Indian Valley and Hiland as the only IVC teams.
