There seems to be further question marks over the future of LIV Golf following the announcement that their event in Louisiana has been postponed.
There has been so much speculation surrounding LIV Golf over the last two weeks.
While many associated with LIV have attempted to play down the idea that the end could be nigh for the league, the Financial Times has reported that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia plans to withdraw funding after this season.
What has not helped silence the talk is the fact that LIV’s event in Louisiana – which was initially scheduled to take place in June – has been postponed.
There are hopes that the tournament will be rescheduled for later in the year. But clearly, this is not a good look for the league at a time when there have been so many rumours flying around.
And speaking on 5 Clubs, Brendon de Jonge suggested that he would not be at all surprised to see several players look into whether they could move on in the near future.
“I just wonder now if you’re one of those LIV players, obviously we don’t know exactly what the pathway back will be if they’re looking to come back to the PGA Tour, do you stop now so you get the clock ticking? Obviously one pathway back could mean a year off, do you stop now? Do you stop playing now so the year starts ticking at the end of April or May? Whenever their next event might be, and then you can come back in April, May next year as opposed to playing out the entire year and hoping that you find the funding and then you’re waiting until August, September to come back if you don’t find that funding,” he said.
The specific reasons for the postponement have not been detailed, but it adds to the uncertainty surrounding the league's future.
If the Public Investment Fund withdraws funding, it could significantly impact the league's financial stability and operations.
Several players are reportedly starting to consider leaving LIV Golf, although specific names have not been disclosed.
There has been increasing speculation regarding LIV Golf's viability, particularly in light of funding concerns and event postponements.

There have been reports suggesting that Bryson DeChambeau has looked into a potential PGA Tour return. In fact, DeChambeau’s management reportedly met with PGA Tour officials at The Masters to learn more.

DeChambeau has since suggested that he remains optimistic about agreeing a new contract with LIV. But it would be foolish for any player in DeChambeau’s position – his current deal expires after 2026 – to not keep his options open.
He may face a problem, however. De Jonge believes that the two-time US Open champion should not have the opportunity to follow Brooks Koepka‘s path after Koepka’s LIV exit led to the Returning Member Program being launched.
“Without a doubt [they have to be considering leaving]. I just wonder, we talk about these pathways, now that the offer was put out initially to Brooks, Jon Rahm, Cam Smith, Bryson, there’s no way that can look the same if it gets offered again, the fact that these guys have declined it the first time,” he said.
“There’s no way that can look the same. What will that next offer look like when it comes?”
It is hard to imagine that there will not be plenty of twists before there is real clarity on LIV’s long-term future. It is certainly too soon to say that the league cannot recover from these current issues.
But even LIV’s biggest supporter surely cannot argue that this season is going well for the league.
From the outside, it does seem that the league is on the ropes and facing a huge fight to come back.
