Sixers' Andre Drummond reacts to drilling dagger 3 in win over Magic

PHILADELPHIA -- When one looks at the career of Philadelphia 76ers big man Andre Drummond, they will see a rough and tough player who is one of the better rebounders the game has ever seen. He has led the league in rebounding four times in his career and is a 2-time All-Star while being named All-NBA Third team in 2016.

Now, in 2026, Drummond can add corner 3-point specialist to his resume.

Drummond made 28 total 3-pointers in his first 13 years in the league. He made 32 in the 2025-26 season, alone. He made two triples in Wednesday's play-in tournament win over the Orlando Magic, including a dagger 3 from the corner late that sent Xfinity Mobile Arena into a frenzy as Philadelphia advanced to the playoffs.

"If you would have told Andre Drummond that at 17 years old, playing for Detroit, that he was gonna make a dagger 3? Yeah, I don't think he would believe you," laughed Drummond after the win. "But a lot of work that I put into it. Not even just this year, but throughout my entire career. I worked countless hours in the summertime to prepare for moments like this, and the work is shown. Shout out to Nick Nurse for giving me the green light to shoot those shots."

The Sixers will continue to encourage Drummond to take those open 3s. Opponents are still giving him those looks and allowing him to take those shots. As long as they continue to do so, the 14-year veteran is going to continue firing them up in big moments.

"You live for those moments," Drummond added. "As a kid in the backyard, you know, counting down, you know, 3-2-1, and making it not a game winner, but like making a shot, knowing that it's gonna make the crowd erupt."

It is due to the constant work he puts in to make sure that the shot is consistent. That 3-point shot didn't just magically appear.

"It's countless hours," he finished. "Countless hours shooting the same shot, making sure I'm comfortable with it, shooting it contestant, giving myself times and numbers to reach. So, I'm shooting at a high percentage. I'm not shooting to shoot. I'm shooting to make them at a high clip."
