PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers are in the process of moving on to the offseason after being swept in Round 2 by the New York Knicks. The Sixers are now heading into a change in the front office after the team parted ways with Daryl Morey after six seasons as the team's President of Basketball Operations.
One figurehead who will be back is coach Nick Nurse for his fourth season on the job. Nurse has compiled a 116-130 record during his time in Philadelphia, but that is due to the awful 2024-25 season when the team was ravaged by injuries and didn't have their main guys available for too long.
When the season ended on Sunday, veteran forward Kelly Oubre Jr. gave his thoughts on Nurse during his three seasons under his guidance.
"I mean, he goes about his business in an unconventional way," Oubre started. "When I say that, I mean, like he's always a couple steps ahead. He just kind of reminds me of just one of those minds that is, like, you don't know until, like, you see it."
Nurse is certainly unconventional in his coaching ways. He is somebody who focuses a lot on doing things a different way. He is looking for ways to make life easier for his players on the floor and is always looking to get the most out of every player. He has done that with Oubre who is coming off a season in which he shot a career-high 36% from deep.
"I just think that he's obviously a tenured coach, and he's won," Oubre continued. "Obviously, he's been dealt kind of a weird hand with the situations of the lineups and the health issues and stuff like that, but he's always just showed up and tried to figure it out. So, I can respect that."
Nurse has done his best looking for opportunities for Oubre. He wants to make sure his athletic forward is in the best spots to succeed on both ends of the floor whether that's finding spots on the offensive end where he can be effective or finding ways to be helpful defensively. It has helped him advance his career even further at this stage.
"He's definitely somebody that has given me opportunities, and somebody who has pushed me and challenged me in many different ways, and I can only appreciate that, and he's coached me hard," Oubre finished. "So, I can only speak for my relationship with him, for myself. I just told him the other day, like, we're family for life, and I appreciate all the things that he's done for me."
Kelly Oubre Jr. described Nick Nurse's coaching style as unconventional and noted that Nurse is always a few steps ahead in his thinking.

Oubre will be a free agent in the offseason and one has to wonder what his future holds, but the Sixers will certainly welcome him back with open arms as he was an impactful player for this group.
