Looking to inject any semblance of life into the league's worst lineup in the early going this season, the Cincinnati Reds are calling up hot-hitting outfielder Rece Hinds from Triple-A Louisville for Tuesday's opener of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.
Hinds will replace outfielder Noelvi Marte, who was optioned to Louisville following Sunday's loss to the Angels ā the Reds' fourth loss in five games.
Hinds, who debuted in the summer of 2024 with National League player of the week honors in his first week in the big leagues, won similar honors in the International League the first week of this season and remains among the IL's league leaders in most offensive categories through 13 games.
He was hitting .354 with a league-leading five home runs, nine extra-base hits overall and 12 walks.
The Reds, meanwhile, have the NL's worst batting average (.205) and slugging percentage (.325). Only the Giants (3.19) have scored fewer runs per game in the NL than the Reds (3.38). And the Reds are the worst-hitting team with men in scoring position this season.
Marte, who was a big part of last year's second-half drive to the playoffs after moving from third base to the outfield midseason, was just 4-for-29 without an extra base hit this year and had struck out 10 times.
The Reds recalled Rece Hinds to improve their struggling lineup, which is currently the worst in the league.
