Texas A&M freshman Boston Kellner, who suffered a broken orbital bone from a hit by pitch, may return for the Aggies' final series against #13 Mississippi State. Coach Mike Earley expressed optimism about his recovery, highlighting Kellner's resilience.
After receiving a horrifying hit by pitch to the face in Texas A&M's first game against Ole Miss, Aggie freshman standout Boston Kellner could be on the field again as early as Thursday, according to coach Mike Earley.
Earley appeared on TexAgs Live on Monday morning with relatively good news regarding Kellner, saying, "By all accounts, it was a good outcome considering" how scary the injury could have been. While the infielder suffered a broken orbital bone, he avoided the worst-case scenario outcomes of a concussion and/or eye damage.
Earley went as far as to say, "I wouldn't be shocked if he plays this weekend, if he's ok," as the Aggies prepare for their season finale series against a dangerous #13 Mississippi State team.
While Kellner was fortunate to avoid a more serious injury, his speedy recovery is not entirely luck. Earley made sure to credit the youngster's resilience, calling Kellner "a tough dude." He followed with, "You got guys on the team... they're not all tough, I can promise you that, you know that. You know the guys that are tough, and you know the guys that might be a little dramatic, and he's as tough as it gets."
Indeed, it takes a strong mental fortitude to want to be on the receiving end of SEC pitchers after suffering a broken bone in the face less than a week prior.
