The Pittsburgh Steelers are resetting rookie quarterback Drew Allar's development by discarding his previous training and implementing their own methods. This approach is led by QB guru Mike McCarthy, focusing on improving Allar's fundamentals and mechanics.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun their development of rookie third-round quarterback Drew Allar — and they're wasting little time completely resetting everything he's learned so far.
According to ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor, the Steelers are "uninstalling" what Allar learned earlier in his football career and are "reuploading" their own brand of development — which is outstanding news when considering QB guru Mike McCarthy's resume.
"[The Steelers] are essentially uninstalling everything he's learned, and they're reuploading their own methods and fundamentals and mechanics with Allar," Pryor said. "I watched Mike McCarthy and quarterback coach Tom Arth be very intentional with Allar. He was running at about half speed, working on his footwork throughout that practice. Allar said afterward that they're working on widening his base and keeping him off his toes. And that's something that Mike McCarthy said is going to help him process even more and just move faster throughout things as he gets acclimated to the NFL."
Allar appears to be getting the good ole Aaron Rodgers treatment, as the 42-year-old quarterback is arguably McCarthy's biggest success story from Green Bay.
It's not just Allar who the Steelers may have long-term plans for, as Will Howard has often been regarded as a potential future starter, especially given his season of development behind Rodgers in 2025. If he doesn't pan out, however, the Steelers are clearly readying themselves for the Allar experience in the near future.
