The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly bringing back a 27-year-old veteran wide receiver this offseason.
According to KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson, the undrafted former Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers contributor is returning to Pittsburgh for the 2026-27 season.
“#Steelers have now officially signed receiver Brandon Johnson, as previously reported,” Wilson wrote Tuesday,
Johnson first signed with the Steelers on Aug 28., 2024, a day after the Broncos decided to move on from him after two seasons (he contributed 326 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 20 games with the franchise).
Considering Johnson inked a practice squad deal with the six-time Super Bowl champions, it wasn’t surprising to witness him be largely ineffective during the 2024-25 season.
However, Johnson appeared in three games with Pittsburgh and recorded one reception for nine yards. Unsurprisingly, the Steelers washed their hands of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native after one year, prompting him to sign a deal with the Buccaneers shortly after.

Johnson’s stint with Tampa Bay only lasted two months before he reunited with the Steelers. After less than a month, though, Johnson joined the Broncos ahead of their AFC Championship clash vs. the New England Patriots.
Entering the 2026-27 season, the UCF product will be a member of the Steelers again, hoping that the third time will be the charm.
