Stefon Diggs reunion pitch could give Patriots best WR unit in NFL

On paper, that would instantly be one of the best receiving rooms in the NFL, with a real shot at vaulting to the top of that list.

The Patriots came within one game of winning a Super Bowl last season, which should only increase the sense of urgency in the building. If a reunion were possible, there is no doubt that the Patriots should consider it. Diggs was a tremendous locker room presence for the team last season, and he outperformed initial expectations coming off a torn ACL in the previous season with the Houston Texans.

The biggest question here would be money.

Would Diggs be willing to return to New England on a reduced contract? Would another team get into the mix for his services and offer a deal he feels like he can't pass up?

There are so many possibilities with the situation. The truth remains that the Patriots parted ways with Diggs in the first place because they felt like his contract was too high. It was a combination of ability and financials that ultimately led to the split. That opinion hasn't suddenly changed after a court case.

The Patriots have clearly moved on to the point where they gave away Diggs' No. 8 jersey to second-year wide receiver Kyle Williams, a player who is viewed very highly in the organization. There is hope that Williams can break out at some point as a more consistent offensive contributor for New England.

An argument could be made that the door has remained open for Diggs, depending on what happens with Brown. An easy pivot plan would be re-signing Diggs and pairing him with Doubs if a deal for Brown somehow fails to go through.

The one thing working in the Patriots' favor is timing, however. Most of the teams are pretty much set with free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft in the rearview, and most of the money for the 2026 season has already been spent. Could Diggs turn back to New England if the market isn't there in the way that he expected? Anything is possible.

But the odds of Brown, Diggs and Doubs playing together in New England feel more pipe dream than reality.
