Spoelstra: No need to penalize Ball any further
Erik Spoelstra supports no further penalties for LaMelo Ball after flagrant foul.
The Mets suffered their seventh consecutive loss against the Dodgers, despite a strong performance from Nolan McLean and a homer from Francisco Lindor. Team owner Steve Cohen encouraged fans to remain hopeful, highlighting some positives amidst the team's struggles.
The Mets’ frustrating stretch continues.
New York wasted another Nolan McLean gem, as they fell to the Dodgers for their seventh straight loss on Tuesday.
McLean dominated one of the best offenses in baseball all night, but the Mets bats failed to follow suit, managing just one run and five baserunners against Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the LA bullpen.
The lone run and two of the hits came off the bat of Francisco Lindor, who who led off the game with a homer which accounted for his first RBI of the season.
A much-needed strong showing from Lindor was one of a few positives team owner Steve Cohen took away from the loss, despite another frustrating result in the end.
“Nobody likes to lose, but I did see some ‘green shots tonight,’” Cohen wrote on X. “On offense, Lindor had two hits including a home run. [Bo] Bichette got a double hitting it to left field as opposed to recently being right field prone. [Carson] Benge got a solid hit. [Juan] Soto started his running progression today. [Marcus] Semien hit a shot that might have been a home run on a warmer night. Finally, Nolan McLean pitched an outstanding game going 7 innings. Hang in there fans, we will turn this around!”
The Mets’ first opportunity to turn things around will come in Wednesday’s series finale.
That won’t exactly come easy, though, as they’ll have to face-off with Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani who is still yet to allow a run through two outings this season.
Despite the tall-task, Lindor says the urgency is “really high” to bring this long skid to an end.
“We understand we have to win, it's a must-win,” he said Tuesday night. “We're not going to sit here and just say, 'We'll get 'em, we'll get 'em, we'll get 'em.' It's everybody here has a sense of urgency and we're all trying to win -- it’s just a matter of time, we have to get it done.”
The Mets lost due to a lack of offensive support, managing only one run and five baserunners despite Nolan McLean's strong pitching performance.
Francisco Lindor hit a homer, which was the only run for the Mets in the game against the Dodgers.
Steve Cohen urged Mets fans to 'hang in there' and pointed out some positives from the game, despite the frustrating result.
