Texas A&M is in the mix for 2027 5-star power forward

Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan and his veteran staff have been hard at work in the transfer portal and have nearly completed a roster now, including six new additions, led by former Kansas State star shooting guard PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game last season. With several key players returning, the 2026-2027 roster fits McMullan's "Bucky Ball" system.

After leading a roster completely built from the portal last year, all the way to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, it's no surprise that this success has led to the recruiting trail, as McMillan has already landed his first commit in the 2027 class, blue-chip four-star guard Chase Richardson, last week.

Under former head coach Buzz Williams, high school recruiting was touch-and-go, outside of landing and developing the program's all-time leading scorer, Wade Taylor IV. Williams relied heavily on the portal and retention to build his rosters, and while McMillan's strategy will be similar, Texas A&M's play style will continue to attract some of the top prospects in the country.

Chase Richardson is just the start, as it's been reported that the Aggies have already visited 2027 five-star forward Dawson Battie, who is entering his senior year at St. Marks in Dallas, Texas. Battle has also received visits from Baylor, Nebraska, Houston, and the Texas Longhorns.

Dawson Battie is currently positioned as 247Sports' 17th-ranked prospect, 3rd-ranked power forward, and No. 3-ranked prospect in Texas.
