The Atlanta Braves had a rough 2025 season, and if you just looked at the injury luck they've had so far in 2026, you'd figure it was going about the same this time around.
But no -- the Braves are rolling and looking like one of the best teams in baseball, despite all the injuries.
That's great news, really. Atlanta has withstood the absences and avoided the pitfalls that have crushed the Mets and Phillies in the early going.
"We expected the Braves' talent to reassert itself this season, but part of that calculation was that after last season's injury scourge they'd be healthier," ESPN's Bradford Doolittle wrote as part of a new article on Wednesday. "But that luck hasn't really changed. And yet, Atlanta has been an early juggernaut and assumed its place as the Dodgers' primary challenger. The Braves have had elite performances all over the place. Matt Olson has arguably been the National League's best player so far, and has been a run-producing machine. has been Chris Sale."
The Braves are excelling and are considered one of the best teams in baseball despite facing multiple injuries.
The Mets and Phillies have faced significant challenges due to injuries early in the 2026 season.
The Braves' ability to thrive despite injuries indicates strong team depth and resilience, which could be crucial for their playoff aspirations.

At the moment, it's already getting a little tough to chase down the Braves in the NL East Division.
Sure, they'll want to be healthy by the time the games really matter at the end of the year. Until then? Atlanta can just keep doing what it's doing.
"Eventually, though, the Braves need to get whole, and by eventually, we're already talking about October, because Atlanta is threatening to run away from the rest of the NL East," Doolittle writes. "The Braves have time to get Spencer Strider, Ronald Acuna Jr., Raisel Iglesias and others healthy and fully functioning over the summer. It's shaping up to be a big season in Cobb County."
This is a Braves team that has overcome key injuries in the past, but they're obviously at their best when all their talented players can be on the field at once. As long as Atlanta can trend in the right direction from this point on, they should be just fine to contend in the National League.
