Michael Kim explains why Matt Fitzpatrick chips cross-handed
Kim explained on X: āWonder why Matt Fitz chips cross-handed?
āIt works because itās easier to keep the hands ahead of the clubhead which makes contact much more consistent.
āAlso if your right hand gets too jabby during the downswing, it wonāt affect the swing as much as your left hand will act as a natural buffer.
āYou shouldnāt hit full swing shots cross-handed though.ā
Kim was then asked why he thinks it works for some players and not for others, to which he replied: āItās just awkward at first and many donāt like how it looks compared to others.
āYou have to be ok with people looking at you funny.ā
Fitzpatrick is clearly okay with that, with the Englishman currently third in the world rankings behind only Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy thanks to his recent efforts.
On the PGA Tour in 2026, heās currently ranked 12th for Proximity to Hole and 23rd for scrambling.
