Boro & Saints tie balanced on knife edge after first-leg stalemate
Middlesbrough and Southampton play to a goalless draw in the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-final.
David Miller expressed frustration over being benched by Delhi Capitals for two consecutive matches in IPL 2026. He understands the team's need for strategic combinations, especially with limited overseas player slots.
David Miller has admitted to feeling frustrated after being left out of Delhi Capitals’ playing XI for the last two matches in IPL 2026, but the experienced South African batter insists he fully understands the demands of team combinations in the tournament.
Speaking ahead of Delhi Capitals’ clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in Delhi, in which Miller was again benched and the result was same for the hosts Delhi as they lose their 5th consecutive home game. Powered by a century from Finn Allen, KKR secured their 4th win of the season.
Miller acknowledged that missing out is never easy, especially for a player who has been a regular feature in the IPL since 2012. However, he maintained that the franchise’s overseas balance and tactical combinations remain the priority.
“Obviously it is frustrating. You always want to play every game, but such is the IPL. The structure with only four overseas players in the XI means combinations become really important for the team,” Miller said.
DC have opted for Pathum Nissanka at the top of the order while accommodating overseas pacers Mitchell Starc and Lungi Ngidi, leaving Miller on the sidelines. Despite the disappointment, the veteran batter said he remains committed to contributing positively within the squad.
“I’ve been around for a long time. This is not my first IPL, so I understand the make-up of teams. My focus is to keep giving positive feedback to the squad, remain supportive, and contribute whatever I can towards the team,” he added.
Miller also stressed that he is staying prepared in case another opportunity comes later in the season.
“I just want to remain ready and prepare really well. That’s what players like to do, whether the chance comes again or not,” he said.
The 2026 season has been a difficult one for Miller so far. In seven innings, he has scored only 123 runs at a strike rate of 146.42. While he has remained unbeaten four times, his best contribution remains the 41* off 20 balls against Gujarat Titans earlier in the season, an innings remembered as much for the controversial missed single as the late flourish itself.
