Yankees 4, Rangers 2
Things were going pretty well until the Yankees hit all those home runs.
Then things stopped going well.
Jack Leiter was looking…what’s a good word…how about “fire”? The young people say “fire,” right?
Do they still say “on fleek”? Can I say Jack Leiter was “on fleek” at first?
Then bad things happened. Three of them, to be precise, in a four batter span. Ben Rice homered, Aaron Judge homered, and Jazz Chisholm, Jr. homered.

Jazz Chisholm may be a junior but his government name isn’t Jazz. Its Jasrado. I don’t know how the rules work when you are a junior but use a nickname.
Leiter did go six innings, which is good, but he had to deal with a lot of traffic, allowing eight hits in all, walking a guy, and hitting Aaron Judge on an 0-2 pitch in the first.
0-2 HBPs cause me physical pain.
Peyton Gray threw two shutout innings and Gavin Collyer threw one, and they both still have career ERAs of 0.00, so that’s fun.
In Collyer’s seven outings this season, he has struck out the first batter he faced twice, walked the first batter he faced twice, and hit the first batter he faced twice.
Once again, the bats disappointed. Seven hits, of which the only extra base hit was a Joc Pederson pinch hit homer in the seventh.
Skip Schumaker had Danny Jansen pinch hit for Evan Carter to lead off the 8th, when the Yankees brought lefty Tim Hill in to start the inning. Carter had started the game against lefty Max Fried and fanned twice. Having to use your backup catcher to hit for one of your better players in the late innings isn’t ideal.
As it turned out, though, it maybe kind of worked, because Alejandro Osuna, who came into the game for Jansen (who grounded out) when the teams went back out into the field, had a two out single in the ninth for the only other Ranger run of the game.
Our buddy Jazz Jr. tried to get the Rangers back into the game in the ninth, booting a grounder by Joc Pederson where Pederson was originally called safe, only to have it reversed on a challenge, and then making an error two batters later on what would have been a Josh Smith game inning grounder.
The motley offense is getting me down, man.
Jack Leiter hit 97.8 mph with his fastball, averaging 96.2 mph. Peyton Gray touched 92.5 mph with his fastball. Gavin Collyer touched 98.4 mph with his fastball.
Brandon Nimmo had a 109.0 mph GIDP. Joc Pederson’s homer was 108.2 mph. Josh Jung had a 105.0 mph single and a 100.1 mph GIDP. Corey Seager had a 102.9 mph groundout. Ezequiel Duran had a 100.4 mph groundout.
