Pitching was dominant once again for UNC. The Tar Heels held Pitt to just seven runs on 18 hits over the three-game series, surrendering six hits in each contest. That effort came against an offense that entered the weekend averaging nine runs per game — eighth nationally — and 10 hits per game.
Right-hander Jason DeCaro, left-hander Folger Boaz and reliever Caden Glauber led the way on the mound.
In UNC’s 4-1 win in Game 1, DeCaro worked five scoreless innings and struck out seven to earn the win and improve to 9-2. It was his second straight scoreless outing, and he has not allowed an earned run since April 17, when he gave up one in UNC’s 5-2 win over then-No. 2 Georgia Tech.
Boaz followed with a strong relief appearance, piling up a season-high eight strikeouts over three innings.
Glauber appeared in two of the three games, throwing a combined seven scoreless innings and allowing just two hits with six walks and seven strikeouts. He notched his fourth save of the season in Game 1 with five strikeouts over the final three innings. In Game 3, despite a shaky outing with five walks and two strikeouts, he earned the win to move to 7-0 on the year.
