NEW YORK – Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was ticked off.
And frustrated.
And he showed his emotion, rushing onto the field to argue with home plate umpire Jordan Baker.
Hinch was ejected for arguing a call in the fourth inning as the Tigers played the New York Mets in Citi Field on Thursday, May 14.
It all started after Gage Workman hit a double off Mets pitcher Nolan McLean, who is a candidate to be the National League Rookie of the Year.
When Zach McKinstry hit a blooper to left field, Workman was caught in the middle. He was unsure if it was going to be caught or not. After it bounced off the grass, Workman got a late break for third and was called out, even though it was incredibly close.
The replay on the giant, crystal clear videoboard in Citi Field appeared to show Workman get his hand on the bag before the tag.
Let me be as clear as that videoboard: In my eyes, he was safe.
After a video review, the call stood and Hinch came onto the field and was ejected. He was incredibly animated.
Incredibly emotional.
And the frustration was obvious.
But it didn’t spark his team much.
Keider Montero gave up a 2-run homer by Brett Baty tying the game, 3-3.
