There are some guys in the Boston Red Sox organization who probably should have had a say in Alex Cora being fired.
However, there are others who absolutely need to stop with their comments and maybe look in the mirror a bit. One of those guys is Trevor Story, as Story has been an absolute bust ever since playing in Boston.
We can go on and on about why Story hasn't been the player that he was expected to be, but let's just start with the fact that he's appeared in fewer than 95 games in three of his first four seasons in Boston.
He's played 27 this year, which is a step in the right direction, but he's hitting .198 with 37 strikeouts.
Even with all the struggles that we've seen him have with the Red Sox, it hasn't stopped him from making comments, and he made sure to let it be known how he felt over the weekend after Cora was dismissed.
"I mean obviously, it's kind of up in the air what the true direction of the franchise is," the two-time All-Star said Sunday morning before a series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, per ESPN. "Some of the best coaches in the world didn't get a fair shot."
"He had our backs every single day," Story said. "He was very truthful with players and took bullets for us and did everything you can ask for and more as a manager. I just can't express how thankful I am to have played for him. Yeah, I've got a love for that guy."
There's a side here that suggests Story is just sticking up for his guys, but to come out and say coaches didn't get a fair shot is a bit ridiculous. Every coach gets a shot, as Cora has been in Boston for quite some time now.
The article does not specify the reasons for Alex Cora's firing, but it suggests that some within the organization may have had differing opinions on the decision.

Instead, Story should look in the mirror and say that if he had played a bit better, his skipper probably wouldn't have been fired, as he was expected to be one of the leaders and top players on this team when the Red Sox landed him a few years ago.
