The Twins lost to the Brewers 3-2 in a dramatic finish. Joe Ryan pitched six innings, allowing only one run but couldn't secure the win.
The Twins got their third quality start in four games on this homestand on Friday night when Joe Ryan threw six innings of one-run ball against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ryan allowed a double to the first batter he faced, Jackson Chourio, who eventually came around to score, giving Milwaukee an early lead, but that was all the Brewers would manage during the duration of his start.
It was his second-straight start in which he gave up one run in six innings pitched, two strong showings after an injury scare earlier this month that forced him out of a game in the first inning.
Twins third baseman Royce Lewis was in the middle of two of the biggest moments of the game.
He had a big swing in the seventh inning, giving the Twins their first lead of the night after they had tied the game up in the sixth, and a half inning later, an obstruction call on Lewis led to a Brewers run.
After Luke Keaschall and Kody Clemens singled before him off Brewers reliever Aaron Ashby, Lewis lined a pitch at 106.1 miles per hour off the bat to left, putting the Twins up 2-1.
It was an important swing for the third baseman, who entered the day hitting just .161 and has been searching for answers at the plate. But in the top of the eighth, with runners on second and third, Brooks Lee fielded a ground ball and threw it to Lewis, hoping to beat Chourio, who was off the bag.
Chourio was initially ruled out after trying to slide back into third but after a conference between the umpires, Lewis was called for obstructing the bag with his foot, which meant Chourio was awarded home, tying the game.
The call led resulted in manager Derek Shelton’s third ejection of this season. One batter later, doubled off of Andrew Morris to give Milwaukee the lead.
The final score was Brewers 3, Twins 2.
