Two Rangers prospects named finalists for OHL Captain’s Trophy
Two of the New York Rangers’ top prospects, Nathan Aspinall and Liam Greentree, could add some hardware to their shelf after a pair of successful campaigns in the Ontario Hockey League this season.
Aspinall and Greentree are two of four finalists for the Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy — awarded to the OHL team captain who best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice — the League announced Wednesday.
Aspinall captained the Flint Firebirds to a team-record 95 points (44-17-4-3) and finished second in league scoring with 94 points (33 goals, 61 assists) in 65 games. The 6-foot-7 forward, drafted in the fifth round (No. 159 overall) by the Rangers in 2024, is also a finalist for the Red Tilson Trophy, awarded to the League’s most outstanding player.
Greentree claimed the Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy last season and can become the first player in OHL history to take home the award twice. The former first-round pick (No. 26 overall 2024) helped the Windsor Spitfires to the best record in the West Division of the OHL’s Western Conference. Greentree led the team with 74 points (38 goals, 36 assists) in 52 games in his third season as Windsor’s captain.
Nashville Predators first-round pick Brady Martin (No. 5 overall 2025) and 18-year-old center Jake O’Brien are the remaining two finalists, with O’Brien leading the Brantford Bulldogs to the League’s best record at 106 points (48-10-8-2).

Greentree capped off his 2025-26 OHL campaign with an exclamation mark after the Rangers acquired him from the Los Angeles Kings on March 6 as part of the trade return for star winger Artemi Panarin.
The 20-year-old posted 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) over the final 17 games of the regular season, even earning OHL Player of the Week honors on March 4. That success extended to the OHL Playoffs, where Greentree has notched 13 points (six goals, seven assists) through 12 games, helping Windsor reach the Conference Final.
Greentree’s Spitfires swept Aspinall’s Firebirds in the second round, and now he’ll look to help Windsor stave off elimination against a Kitchener Rangers team that led the Western Conference 101 points (47-14-5-2). Greentree tallied an assist in Game 4, but Kitchener extended its series lead to 3-1 with a 6-3 win on Wednesday night.
Kitchener hosts Windsor in Game 5 on Friday night on the brink of its first Finals appearance since 2008.
