Ty Simpson is more than open to beginning his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A day before the opening round takes place in Pittsburgh, the quarterback discussed the possibility of getting drafted by the Steelers. Simpson explained why he'd be a good fit for the organization, per DK Pittsburgh Sports.
"It'd be awesome," Simpson said of playing for the Steelers. "This is my first time in Pittsburgh, I've really enjoyed the town. It's a gritty city. I feel like that's how I play. I feel like that's how Alabama is, so I'd be blessed to be able to play for the Steelers and Coach (Mike) McCarthy."
Simpson spoke fondly of meeting McCarthy and general manager Omar Khan at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year.
"It was great," Simpson said. "It's a great organization and real gritty, like I said. Just a city that represents the organization. Coach McCarthy's gonna do a great job there. He has stuff in line, and Omar was great as well.
"So, I really have a ton of respect for them. If I ever got to play for those guys or was blessed to hear my name called on Thursday night, it's gonna be so surreal."
Barring a last-minute decision from Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers will enter the draft without a clear starting quarterback. They still may not target a signal-caller with the No. 21 pick, but Simpson would be the most likelyoption.
ESPN's Jordan Reid and NFL.com's Bucky Brooks are among the numerous analysts to rank Simpson as this draft's No. 2 quarterback behind presumptive top pick Fernando Mendoza. While he's not a first-round lock, Simpson will attend the draft on Thursday night.
