UCA baseball getting hot at the right time

CONWAY, Ark. (KLRT) – At one point in April, the UCA baseball team was sitting at 18-18 on the season and 7-8 in conference play.

Now the Bears are on a four-game win streak and have won 11 of their last 13 games.

UCA head baseball coach Nick Harlan believes the switch is no coincidence.

“Our whole thing is respect the day, respect the moment. We have the leadership that believes in that. So they show up every day. They’re the same team. They work hard regardless of what we did the day before. They don’t get too far ahead, and they just work at it,” Harlan said.

One of the players who has been integral in this run is Zeb Allen.

The ASUN player of the week has caught fire at the perfect time, putting up 11 runs, four homers, and 11 RBI while hitting .556 over the last five games.

As Coach Harlan puts it, he’s a player who truly has it all.

“I always say Zeb, you have to have character, talent, and skill, and he has all three,” Harlan said.

One of the most memorable moments for Allen this past season was when he etched his name into UCA history, blasting his 25th home run against Lipscomb to become the program’s all-time leader.

As if breaking one record wasn’t impressive enough, he then set the single-season record with his 17th home run against Bellarmine.

“Definitely knew it whenever I hit it. Just a super cool experience. Like I’ve said before, it’s a really special group, so getting to share that with the guys and be able to have an amazing group of teammates, it’s been really cool to see,” Allen said.

The Bears will take on Austin Peay this Friday night with the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
