UCLA only needs nine innings in game two win against Rutgers

The No. 1 UCLA baseball team won game two of their Big Ten Conference series against Rutgers 7-1 at Bainton Field in Piscataway, N,J. on Saturday.
This time, the Bruins won in regulation, as their batters awoke against the Scarlet Knights with 12 hits leading to seven runs. UCLA's pitching staff also continued to stifle Rutgers' batters with the trio of Bruin pitchers giving up five hits and five walks for a run, but striking out 10 of the Scarlet Knights' batters.
Two innings, two runs
UCLA pushed across their first run in the top of the first off of a grounded out, but Rutgers stopped stopped the damage there after two Bruin hits. The Bruins tallied their second in run in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly following a sacrifice bunt getting another runner home and putting UCLA up 2-0 heading into the third.
Holding off the Scarlet Knights
In the bottom of the third, Rutgers swiftly cut UCLA's lead in half with a homer to center field by Scarlet Knights' junior outfielder Chase Krewson. UCLA tried to increase their lead in the top of the fourth, but after getting one hit in the frame, the Bruins went to the fifth up by just one run.
Three in one
UCLA more than doubled their runs in the fifth starting off with a two-run homer struck by junior outfielder Will Gasparino. Junior center fielder Cashel Dugger followed up Gasparino with a homer of his own to centerfield.
Another one
In the top of the seventh, UCLA added another run to their ever-growing lead, but this time it came off of a sacrifice fly. The Bruins entered the final two innings up 6-1.
Locking in another one
The Bruins made contact with one more pitch in the final two innings and it was a homer by junior first baseman Mulivai Levu in the top of the eighth.
UCLA will play their series finale on Sunday with an anticipated start time of 9 a.m. PT.
