For the first time in 15 years, the UFC is bringing a numbered event to Philadelphia.
UFC 330 is scheduled to go down on Saturday, August 15 from the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and UFC CEO Dana White announced the news during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.
In a separate release from the UFCâs parent company at TKO Group Holdings, a championship bout is expected to headline the card.
âPennsylvania is thrilled to host UFC 330 in Philadelphia, the first time a championship bout is coming back to the Commonwealth in fifteen years,â Shapiro said. âThis is a huge year for Pennsylvania â all eyes are on the Commonwealth as we celebrate America 250 and host some of the biggest sporting events in the world in the place where it all started.
âFrom UFC and March Madness to the FIFA World Cup and the NFL Draft, weâre excited to host world class sporting events that will bring with them incredible opportunities for our businesses, our communities, and our fans. The Commonwealth is all in and we look forward to welcoming UFC back to Pennsylvania.â
The full fight card along with ticket information is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The UFC has hosted several events in Philadelphia in the past but the promotion hasnât held an event there since 2019 when Justin Gaethje knocked out Edson Barboza in a UFC Fight Night main event. The last numbered event in Philadelphia took place in 2011 when Rashad Evans faced Tito Ortiz in the headliner.
Of course there are numerous fighters on the current UFC roster who train and live in Philadelphia including welterweight contender Sean Brady and top 10 ranked middleweight Joe Pyfer, who is coming off a win over former champion Israel Adesanya.
