Jim Miller just got signed to a new UFC deal, paving the way to his goal of 50 fights with the promotion before he retires … and maybe one or two more?
Miller has been away from the sport for nearly a year dealing with family matters, namely helping his 14-year-old son through chemo for a rare and aggressive form of cancer. With that mission accomplished, he returned to the cage at UFC 328 to submit Jared Gordon with a first round guillotine choke (watch the highlights here).
Not only did Jim earn a $100,000 performance bonus off that win, he walked out of the Prudential Center in New Jersey with a new five fight deal.
“Tonight was the last fight on his contract, and we just signed him to five more fights,” UFC CEO Dana White said at the post-event press conference. “If he fights four times, it’s 50 fights in the UFC. If he fights the last one, it’s 51. Pretty incredible. I just threw it in there. Sean [Shelby] goes, ‘Let’s sign him to a four fight deal.’ I said, let’s sign him to a five fight deal. So yeah.”
At 42 years old, Jim Miller already holds a number of longevity-related records. He has the most wins in UFC history (28), the most bouts (47), and he’s one finish behind Charles Oliveira for the most finishes record as well. He’s got three more fights before he hits his self-selected but as White noted, there’s always the option of one or two more.
