UNC guards gets major scoring boost from Utah transfer Terrence Brown

Thanks to one grand, final transfer portal push on Tuesday, the UNC men's basketball team has needed talent reinforcements for its 2026-27 roster.

North Carolina landed NC State guard Matt Able, who proved his worth as a reliable bench scoring option last season. In a surprise commitment, the Tar Heels also got FAU forward Maxim Logue, reinforcing their new-look backcourt.

UNC's greatest portal addition, without question, is Utah transfer Terrence Brown Jr. Averaging 20 points per game across his past two seasons, Brown gives North Carolina an elite, backcourt scoring option they largely missed during its 2025-26 campaign.

Brown, who began his career at Fairleigh Dickinson University one year after the historic 16-1 upset over Purdue, became a star during Year Two with 20.6 points per game. Knowing he could produce at a Power Four school, Brown transferred to Utah.

The Utes struggled to their second-straight losing season, missing their 10th-straight NCAA Tournament, but Brown was the best player on that bad team. Averaging a Utah-best 19.9 points per game, Brown reached double-figures in all but three games, pouring in a career-high 36 points during a 92-89 overtime win against Weber State.

Seth Trimble was the best guard on a good Tar Heels squad last season, one that continued struggling as late-season injuries mounted. Adding 14 points per game, Trimble averaged 4.2 points greater than UNC's next-closest guard, Luka Bogavac (9.8 PPG).

Derek Dixon contributed just 6.5 points per game, while Jonathan Powell (4.8) and Kyan Evans (4.0) weren't consistent scorers. North Carolina consistently looked down low for scoring production: Henri Veesaar (17 PPG) was an All-Star, as was Caleb Wilson (19.8 PPG), but the latter's absence from the Miami (FL) loss on loomed large.
