UNC has reportedly parted ways with five-star recruit Dylan Mingo just a week into new head coach Michael Malone's tenure. Mingo, who committed to the Tar Heels in February, had not signed a National Letter of Intent and is now considering Washington or Baylor for his next destination.

We are just one week into the Michael Malone era, and the new UNC head coach has already started making sizable moves to build his roster. The most recent was just announced — the Tar Heels have reportedly parted ways with five-star verbal commit Dylan Mingo. The announcement arrived via Tar Heel 247 and Inside Carolina.
Mingo committed to the Tar Heels on February 17th while Hubert Davis was still with the program. Once he left, it was noticed by many that Mingo had still not signed a National Letter of Intent. Michael Malone and his staff met with him over the last few days, and given the wording of both the reports from Tar Heels 247 and Inside Carolina, it sounds like Malone himself decided not to continue with Mingo.
There may be some more information that comes out at a later time regarding this decision, but for now, we will not speculate as to why the decision was made. What we do know is that Dylan Mingo will likely turn to Washington or Baylor as far as his next destination goes, but given the fluidity of college basketball, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he went somewhere else entirely. His brother, Kayden Mingo, is also looking for a new landing spot, and one has to wonder if they will find a way to land on the same team. We will see how things play out prior to National Signing Day, which is Wednesday, April 15th.
