The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran running back Ameer Abdullah and waived Ja'Quinden Jackson, updating their running back depth chart. Abdullah's experience enhances the team's young roster.
Following two roster moves at running back, let's take a look at the current state of this Jacksonville Jaguars position group.
On Monday, the Jaguars announced that they signed veteran running back Ameer Abdullah and waived second-year back Ja'Quinden Jackson as the corresponding move.
Jackson signed with the Jaguars after the 2025 NFL draft as a UDFA. He spent training camp with Jacksonville and then the 2025 season on the practice squad.
The addition of Abdullah adds to the depth of this unit following Jackson's departure. Abdullah brings experience to a relatively young position group and can impact the game in a variety of ways, including as a pass catcher and a return man on kickoffs.
Even with these two roster moves taking place, the top of the depth chart for the Jaguars remains the same with Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez leading the way. The expectation, as of now, is that these two will shoulder the workload out of the backfield. LeQuint Allen will continue to see playing time during obvious passing situations, where his blocking abilities can shine.
Not to be forgotten about either, is UDFA J'Mari Taylor, who seems to already have Liam Coen's attention.
Around the NFL, most teams typically roster three running backs. Although, for what it's worth, the Jaguars did often roster four backs last season.
