Detroit Red Wings defenseman Justin Faulk and their premium forward prospect Max Plante accepted invitations to join Team USA for the World Championships in Switzerland May 15-31.
They are on the list of 25 players on USA’s preliminary roster. The list was highlighted by Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk, a member of USA’s 2026 Olympic gold medal team.
Faulk and Plante are the third and fourth players from the Red Wings organization named to play in the tournament. Defenseman Albert Johansson and forward Lucas Raymond are on Sweden’s roster.

USA’s preliminary roster:
This is the group that will defend the gold medal that the Americans won at the 2025 World Championships. That gold is the first won by the Americans at a World Championships tournament since 1933. (They became World Champions in 1960 by winning the Olympics).
The Red Wings acquired Faulk from the St. Louis Blues before the NHL trade deadline. He will play on Detroit’s second defense pairing in the 2026-27 NHL season. Minnesota-Duluth player Plante (picked 47th, 2024) won the 2026 Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s top player.
The son of former NHL player Derek Plante, Max produced 25 goals and 27 assists for 52 games in 40 games.
The Red Wings wanted to sign Plante this spring. He opted to return to school to play with older brother Zam (Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick) and younger brother Victor. The latter will be a Minnesota-Duluth freshman next fall.
