Voting for the Argus Leader Athlete of the Week is open from May 4-9. Readers can vote for their favorite local high school athlete until May 15 at 11:59 p.m.
The spring sports regular seasons are all coming to an end, and many local athletes are beginning to hit peak form.
Here are the nominees for the Argus Leader's high school Athletes of the Week for May 4 to 9. ArgusLeader.com readers vote to decide this week's winner. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
Athletes are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
Fenton was nearly impossible to get out all week, with Brandon Valley splitting a pair of games against Sioux Falls Lincoln and dominating two games against Huron. The junior went 7-for-11 at the dish with three doubles, a triple, three walks, four RBIs and seven runs scored.
Jacobson helped Jefferson go 5-0 on the week and surge up the Class A standings. At the plate, the senior was 9-for-19 with four RBIs and three runs scored. He followed that up with a pair of one-inning relief appearances, allowing two hits, striking out two and earning a win.
Reilly won a pair of events at the Sioux Falls Metro Conference meet, topping the competition in both the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races. He edged out the last Argus Leader Athlete of the Week, Mikah Peters, in the 800-meter race by 0.61 seconds, finishing in 1:55.17. He then won the 1,600-meter race by three seconds with a time of 4:14.92.
Schlimgen helped O'Gorman go 4-3 on the week thanks to a monster stretch in the batter's box. He went 9-for-25 with a double, two triples, five walks, seven RBIs and five runs scored.
Sonnichsen had quite the week both at the plate and on the mound. The junior went 9-for-18 at the dish with two doubles, a triple, a home run, three walks, two RBIs, nine runs scored and four stolen bases. He then tossed 6.1 innings on the bump, earning a win for a 5.2-inning effort and a two-out save. Sonnichsen gave up two earned runs on eight hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts.
The nominees include local high school athletes, with Ryan Fenton from Brandon Valley listed among them.
Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 15.

Biteler had a three-homer game against Aberdeen Central this week and that powered a steady seven days for the center fielder. She ended up going 6-for-16 with a triple, three home runs, a walk, seven RBIs and six runs scored.

Bryant was nearly unstoppable this week, putting up video-game numbers. The South Dakota State commit didn't make an out for two of the three games the Cavaliers played. Bryant went 8-for-11 with two doubles, three triples, a home run, a walk, 14 RBIs and nine runs.
Hinsch did it all for Sioux Falls Roosevelt, with the Rough Riders going 3-1 to bring their record to 9-6. The junior pitcher tossed 17.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on 15 hits and eight walks with 29 strikeouts. She also went 7-for-12 at the dish with four doubles, a home run, a walk, eight RBIs and two runs scored.

Kok led a struggling Sioux Falls Lincoln team through its first undefeated week of the season. The senior shortstop went 7-for-11 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, two walks, nine RBIs and nine runs.

Reilly had yet another standout performance at the Sioux Falls Metro Conference meet, winning both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races. She won the 1,600-meter race by over 10 seconds, finishing in 4:52.16. The 3,200-meter race was even more lopsided, finishing in 10:53.34 to win by over a minute.
