It is safe to say that you cannot say anything about Golden State Warriors basketball without thinking of No. 30, Stephen Curry. He is the legacy of the franchise, and he is on a one-year deal worth $62.587 million next season.
But, before he even dribbles a basketball or puts up a three-ball next season, Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is already talking about trying to have Curry retire as a Warrior. At 38, that time is coming sooner than we all realize.
Per ESPN's Anthony Slater, Dunleavy spoke to reporters on the potential of keeping Curry around until he decides it is time to hang it up.
“I don’t see under any scenario where we don’t want to figure out a way to have him finish here," Dunleavy Jr. said.
Curry is still playing at a high level of basketball, but the Warriors are going to run into a problem once he decides to call it quits. The point guard revolutionized the NBA, with his focus on three-pointers serving as the blueprint for this franchise's four championships during Curry's tenure.

But what comes next? Who takes the torch from Curry and inspires the next generation of Warriors' success?
If Curry continues to get these larger-than-life contracts, there is going to be very little wiggle room to bring in any more outstanding talent to take the reins. Meaning that the next "Curry" of this franchise is going to have to come up as he did. An under-the-radar draft pick.
Keeping Curry in Golden State is a great plan, as his roots are embedded there for years to come. There is also the possibility of doing what the Boston Celtics did with Isiah Thomas and bringing him back into an office role in the organization. Curry could be a large help in the future.
