After falling short of postseason play for the second time in three years, the Golden State Warriors will likely look to upgrade the roster over the offseason.
One way they could do that is with a blockbuster offseason trade.
In a recent article, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report pitched the Warriors as a potential suitor and landing spot for Los Angeles Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard in an offseason trade.
The Warriors were interested in Leonard prior to the trade deadline in February, but no deal ever came to fruition. Perhaps the sides will be able to work something out this time around.
"Leonard feels almost a little too perfect for this team. The 34-year-old (35 in June) is in the same fight with Father Time as Curry and carries as many availability concerns as anyone. At the same time, Leonard remains a brilliant basketball player who impacts both ends of the floor like few others in the league," Buckley wrote.

Kawhi Leonard's addition would significantly enhance the Warriors' competitiveness, providing a strong pairing with Steph Curry.

"Leonard might represent the highest end of Golden State's trade budget, but he has enough question marks for us to think he can land within it. And he'd be an objectively awesome get for the Warriors, possessing the processing skills needed to fit this read-and-react system and the creation ability to break away from it when they just need a bucket."
Leonard has just one year remaining on his current contract, so trading for him could be a risky proposition without a guarantee that he'll sign an extension.
But, the Warriors are in a unique position as they look to capitalize on Steph Curry's remaining prime years. So, the thought of adding a star on a short deal might not sound as unappealing to them as it could be for other teams.
Curry and Leonard would certainly make an intriguing duo, if they could stay healthy. Given Golden State's prior interest in Leonard, it certainly wouldn't be shocking if they tried to get a deal done.
