Four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf has committed to the Washington Huskies after a successful unofficial visit. He chose Washington over 29 other offers, citing a good fit with the team's offense and coaching staff.
After having him on campus for an unofficial visit on Junior Day, the Washington Huskies made a big push late to land the commitment of four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound product of Desert Edge High School in Arizona is ranked as the No. 152 overall prospect and No. 12 quarterback in the nation and picked the Huskies over 29 other offers, including a group of finalists that also included Mississippi State, North Carolina, and UCLA.
"It just fit for me," Roskopf, who is set to take his official visit to UW on May 29, told Arizonavarsity.com's Adam Beadle of why he chose the Huskies. "The offense they run, I feel, fits me and (quarterback coach) JP (Losman)'s done a lot of recruiting, I'm excited, it's going to be fun."
While Losman put in a lot of work, he also got an assist from Roskopf's teammate, four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney, who announced his commitment to UW in late January.
"He was a big part of the decision," Roskopf added. "It was just kind of him urging me to go, and all the work we've put in together is going to carry on to the next level, so I'm excited."
While Sidney dealt with injuries for the majority of his junior season, Roskopf was still able to post some gaudy numbers as he led Desert Edge to the quarterfinals of Arizona's 5A playoffs. He completed over 66 percent of his passes for 2,815 yards and 37 touchdowns with 8 interceptions, while displaying a skill set that caught the eye of a lot of the nation's top programs.
"Arm talent really pops off the screen, big arm and the ball jumps out of his hand," former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his evaluation. "Shows off easy velocity, can get the ball down the field with little wasted motion...Pure pocket guy, but shows the ability to escape pressure and is comfortable throwing outside the pocket as well...Throws with anticipation and looks to have a good feel for going through his progressions and throwing his receivers open."
Blake Roskopf chose Washington because he felt the offense fit him well and appreciated the recruiting efforts of quarterback coach JP Losman.
