2027 wide receiver Quentin Burrell initially picked Notre Dame's hat but ultimately chose Michigan during his commitment announcement. This decision continues Notre Dame's challenges in securing top recruits from Mount Carmel.
That hat dance isn’t always fun for Notre Dame football, and on Wednesday that proved again to be the case.
Illinois 2027 wide receiver Quentin Burrell had the Irish, Missouri, Arizona State and Michigan hats on the table when he made his commitment, and it looked like Notre Dame was going to win out. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 200-pound 4-star prospect initially picked up the hat with the ND logo, only to discard it quickly and ultimately pick the Wolverines. However, he did say that he was picking them, just ended up grabbing the wrong one.
It’s hard to say if this was intentional but still won’t sit well with anyone in South Bend, as Burrell picked a rival of Notre Dame’s and continued it struggles to land a prospect from powerhouse Mount Carmel. You have to wonder why this was the pick, as Michigan struggled to throw the ball this past season, but did bring a new coaching staff after firing Sherrone Moore.
The Irish still have multiple targets at wide receiver that are highly considering them, as they’ll turn their attention to them now.
