What Kansas City Royals Proved in Sweep of Angels
The Kansas City Royals completed a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Kansas City was trailing Los Angeles in the bottom of the 10th inning by a score of 9-8. WIth two outs and runners on first and third, outfielder Lane Thomas delivered a three-run walk-off home run to give the Royals the 11-9 victory.
It was a huge series for Kansas City to say the least. The Royals are still just 11-17 overall this season, but the ball club took a step in the right direction at home this weekend.
So, what did the Royals prove this weekend?
Close games were a struggle at times for the Royals to begin the season. While they did win Saturday's game 12-1, the other two contests were much more competitive. On Friday, Kansas City began the series with a 6-3 win. The offense came through and led the way.
The lineup once again took care of business on Sunday with 11 runs scored. Kansas City found a way to win the game despite being down to their final out in extra innings. It was a close game that saw the Royals get the job done in the end.
The Royals could have been content with a 2-1 series win. Given the way their season has gone, a 2-1 series victory would have been a win in itself. The ball club clearly wanted more, though.
Even after a long ball game, they never gave up on Sunday. Rain was falling at times, it was a late night, yet the Royals still did everything they could to win. It all worked out as Thomas came through with the clutch swing in the bottom half of the 10th inning.
Having talent is obviously important. With that being said, coming together as a team and developing chemistry is pivotal. Having a resilient team is of the utmost importance.
The final score was 11-9 in favor of the Kansas City Royals.
Lane Thomas hit the three-run walk-off home run for the Royals.
The sweep indicates a positive step forward for the Royals, improving their morale despite their overall 11-17 record.
