The transfer portal's closed, and Auburn basketball's done plenty to put its roster for the 2026-27 campaign together. But there's still some work to do.
The Tigers are "probably one away from being done" with their offseason roster moves, head coach Steven Pearl said Tuesday, April 28, at an Auburn AMBUSH event in Montgomery.
"We're just kind of looking to see what piece fits," he said. "I would say somebody that could probably combo at the 2 (shooting guard) and the 3 (small forward) is what we're probably looking at to kind of finish out the roster."
To this point, Auburn's signed five transfers, largely shoring up its front court. Four of those five are either forwards or centers, with Santa Clara's Bukky Oboye and Creighton's Owen Freeman highlighting some newfound size.
"Feel really good about the depth that we have at the rest of those positions," Pearl said. "In a good place right now. Credit to the staff for getting us ahead of the game and being in a spot to where we can feel good about where we're at."
With the retentions of Tahaad Pettiford, Kevin Overton and Simon Walker, the pieces Auburn is looking for in its back court are primarily depth pieces. Its one addition in that aspect this point, Vanderbilt transfer George Kimble III, highlights that. He redshirted his lone season with a commodores after a breakout year at mid-major Eastern Kentucky. According to Pearl, he "wasn't really scared of the competition. He knew what he was walking into."
As for adding that final piece, Pearl doesn't have a desired timeline for landing one. He said he and his staff plan to work on securing that addition in the coming weeks, but "it's got to be one that makes sense."
"We're not going to waste and spend money on someone that doesn't fit our culture and what we're doing," Pearl said. "It's got to be a piece that just fits what we currently have on the roster."
