This week, the first serious whispers about Wesley Fofana emerged, with talk from various publications that he had been “offered” to Barcelona by his representatives.
The Catalan club were said to have added him to their list of potential targets – albeit pretty far behind number one choice Alessandro Bastoni.
Today’s Daily Mail has an update on all that. They say that Fofana has “no intention” of leaving Chelsea, according to sources close to him. You wouldn’t have known it from looking at his attitude on the pitch. He looks like he’d rather be anywhere.
Presumably Fofana’s £200,000 a week wages are the issue here. Given his record of injuries and performance since signing from Leicester in 2022, nobody is going to offer him anything close to that.
He would therefore be mad to leave Chelsea where he’s getting such a monster payday. No matter how unhappy he is with the club’s direction, he’s not willing to talk away from that kind of money. He finally got his wish when Liam Rosenior was sacked, and is presumably now hoping he and the new manager get on better.
Wesley Fofana's camp insists that his reluctance to leave Chelsea is primarily due to financial reasons.
Recent reports suggest that Wesley Fofana has been offered to Barcelona by his representatives, sparking discussions about a potential transfer.
The major issue affecting Wesley Fofana's potential move to Barcelona is his desire to remain at Chelsea, which is believed to be linked to financial considerations.
