What Wes Johnson said on injury to Georgia baseball OF Henry Allen

Henry Allen has started all but one SEC game for the No. 5 Georgia baseball team, but the outfielder is expected to be out for the rest of this weekend and perhaps longer after sustaining a knee injury Friday night against Missouri.

Coach Wes Johnson said after a 4-0 Bulldogs win on May 1 he’ll know more after Allen sees a doctor Saturday morning.

“Right now, we know it’s a knee,” Johnson said. “He’s got an appointment in the morning. Doc just said, ‘Hey, I’m not going to speculate. We’re going to go get some pictures.' Obviously, he’ll be out the weekend more than likely. I’ll say that. Yeah, I’m going to say that because he’s probably going to be pretty sore the next two days either way.”

Allen’s injury came in the second inning when the left fielder was charging down the first base line after hitting a grounder to third and tried to avoid a tag after a high throw.

He was out on the play, but came down awkwardly and needed help getting off the field.

The sophomore from Auburn, Ala., has been an underrated pickup after transferring from Northwest Florida State College.

Allen is hitting .321 with 13 homers and his 41 RBIs was tied for second on the Bulldogs entering Friday’s game.

He owns the two longest homers this season for the Bulldogs against Arkansas and Georgia Tech.

Ryan Black entered the game when Allen went out and drove in three runs on a sacrifice fly and a two-run single.

“The depth is unimaginable,” said third baseman Michael O’Shaugnessy. “We’ve got guys on our bench that are fantastic players. Henry went down and it hurt because Henry’s our guy.”
