Rory McIlroy stormed back on Friday at the PGA Championship 2026 to find himself “right in the tournament”.
The Masters champion is now just five shots off the halfway lead at at Aronimink Golf Club, with world No 1 Scottie Scheffler ominously placed two back at -2.
Maverick McNealy joined round one’s overnight co-leader Alex Smalley at the top of the PGA Championship leaderboard, though superstar talent started to descend on the top of the leaderboard ahead of the weekend.
Ludvig Aberg is also two back at -2, while Hideki Matsuyama, Chris Gotterup, Aldrich Potgieter, Stephan Jaeger, Min Woo Lee and Max Greyserman are one shot closer at -3, with the major championship wide open at the half-way stage.
