Shane Smith had quite the breakout campaign with the Chicago White Sox, appearing in 29 games, with an ERA of 3.81 and a WHIP of 1.19, which were among the reasons that the 26-year-old was named to an All-Star team last season.
While all eyes were on Smith to see if he could build on his breakout season, the sophomore slump has been a reality for the White Sox ace. In his three appearances with Chicago this season, Smith has yet to record a win, posting an ERA of 10.80 and a WHIP of 2.52, while struggling to get deep into any of his appearances.
These problems on the mound persisted in his time with the White Soxâs triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights, as the 26-year-old would post an ERA of 5.27 across his four starts in the minor leagues.
But it appears that it could be some time before White Sox fans will see Smith take to the mound at any level, as he suffered from a strain in his right rotator cuff, which will cost him some time, as reported by MLB.comâs Scott Merkin.
This will put a halt to any progress that the former All-Star was making and will only add to the list of injuries that the Chicago is dealing with, as heâll join Everson Pereira and Kyle Teel, among others, on the injury list.
