Green spent five seasons in college, turning out for Boise State and Arkansas. He was fairly erratic across his collegiate career, committing 37 turnovers over the past two seasons (20 interceptions, 17 fumbles).
Nevertheless, Green remains an intriguing prospect simply for his physical traits. He shined at the NFL Draft Combine, posting a 4.36 40-yard dash and a 43.5-inch vertical jump, both of which ranked first among quarterbacks.
Greenās physical gifts and frame ā he stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 227 pounds ā make him an intriguing prospect. His upside is the most appealing part of his game; players of his size and athleticism arenāt too common in the modern game.
Green can create plays at the second and third levels of the defense, throwing balls down the field with real velocity. Still, his penchant for turnovers ā a side effect of an inconsistent throwing motion ā is likely to cap his potential if it isnāt addressed in the near future.
Green is a developmental prospect who could make a splash if he can refine the weaker points of his game. Thatās a big if, however. Greenās recent outings suggest the rougher elements of his game are, indeed, central to his play style. With Green now a little more than a month into the season, he is running out of time to cut down on his miscues and make himself into an NFL-caliber quarterback ā even if his traits suggest otherwise.
Green was arguably the combine's best performer. He was fairly inconspicuous ahead of the spectacle, failing to register much interest among casual NFL observers.
That changed when he raced down the sideline for the 40-yard-dash.
Green's 4.36 40-time is the third-fastest 40 in combine history, only bested by Michael Vick's 4.33 showing in 2001 and Reggie McNeal's offering in 2006. It also set the stage for a memorable day at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Arkansas product.
Prior to his run, Green had already cemented himself in combine lore. He posted an 11'2" broad jump, the furtherest recorded distance in combine history for a quarterback.
The records kept on tumbling for Green, who leapt to the heavens -- all 43.5 inches of them -- in the vertical jump, the highest mark for a quarterback in combine history.
Green was a star on Lucas Oil Stadium's manufactured plains. Only time will tell if he can find similar success at the next level.

Following Green's selection, Browns general manager Andrew Berry told reporters that he planned on moving forward with Watson, Sanders, Gabriel and Green as Cleveland's quarterback room, per ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.
With new coach Todd Monken at the helm, Watson, Sanders and Gabriel are set to compete in a fiery quarterback competition during training camp. Green very well could feature in that action, although it seems likelier that he'll be the final man to round out the quarterback rotation.
Watson's torn Achilles and lackluster showings since joining the Browns would appear to condemn him to a lowly standing on Cleveland's QB depth chart. However, neither Sanders nor Gabriel made the starting spot their own last year. Simply put, it's anyone guess who will take snaps when the Browns kick off their regular season.
