The Brooklyn Nets are preparing for the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, where they could secure the No. 6 pick. Darius Acuff Jr., an Arkansas guard, is a leading candidate for selection due to his impressive performance and scoring ability.
The Brooklyn Nets are a few days away from the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery that will determine whether they'll be able to select their next franchise player to lead them out of the current rebuild. Brooklyn will not know its fate in the upcoming draft until Sunday's Lottery, but it's fair to wonder who the Nets should take if they ended up with the No. 6 overall pick.
"The play of Darius Acuff Jr. has become one of the hottest topics in the NBA draft discussion over the last two months," Jonathan Wasserman wrote for Bleacher Report in his scouting report of Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. Bleacher Report recently conducted a Lottery simulation through Tankathon that resulted in the Nets getting the sixth overall pick where Wasserman has Acuff being selected in a variety of his mock drafts over the past few months.
"He had been as steady as any prospect through January, but his offense exploded in February through March, a stretch that included a 49-point performance during an overtime win against Alabama," Wasserman continued before addressing some of Acuff's concerns. "While certain lottery teams at the top could still hesitate on Acuff's measurements, analytics and defense, his scoring and playmaking have reached convincing enough levels to spark conversations about whether he deserves top-five consideration."
Acuff ended the 2025-26 season with averages of 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 44.0% from behind the three-point line in 36 games played. Acuff was even better following the conclusion of 28.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 44.4% from the floor and 48.3% from three-point land in six games played in the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.

The Nets' decision could be influenced by Acuff's performance metrics, his potential fit within the team, and concerns regarding his measurements and defensive capabilities.

At this point in the pre-draft cycle, Acuff seems to be regarded as a player that could grow into a potential offensive engine if he can maximize his strengths. However, as Wasserman pointed out, there are concerns about Acuff's size (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) and lack of defensive impact, but if the Nets have the sixth overall pick and he is still on the board, the Arkansas guard would probably be the best choice at that spot.
