Caitlin Clark rejected an offer by the WNBA to celebrate her Rookie of the Year award, according to a book about the Indiana Fever star.
Clark and her team pushed back on the leagueâs proposal to mark the historic moment with a press conference and interviews, after she was announced as the near-unanimous recipient of the prestigious award in October 2024.
âWe offered to come to Indy after the team season had finished and do a press conference and/or have [NBA Entertainment] do a sit down with CC,â WNBA spokesperson Ron Howard said in the book On Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Revolution in Womenâs Sports by Christine Brennan. âBut both the team and her agent declined the offer.â
Howard added that the league tried to work with Clarkâs schedule and âoffered to do something in Indianapolisâ but that they were âturned down.â
âAdding to that the fact that we had a chance to do a sit down with her for as well, but the opportunities were declined,â he told Brennan in the book.
Caitlin Clark rejected the WNBA's celebration plans to maintain her personal preferences and focus on her career.
Paige Bueckers chose to embrace the WNBA's celebration plans, contrasting with Caitlin Clark's decision.
The new book discusses Caitlin Clark's choice to turn down promotional opportunities related to her Rookie of the Year award.

The hoopla surrounding Clarkâs win paled in comparison to how the Rookie of the Year the following season chose to celebrate her moment.
Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers danced through the Spirit Tunnel on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where she was presented with the trophy by WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert on Sept. 16.
"I bet I'm the last person you thought youâd see on this cool spirit tunnel," Engelbert joked before revealing Bueckers, 24, had won the award. "But, I'm here to present you with the 2025 KIA WNBA Rookie of the Year award, congratulations," the commissioner said as she handed Bueckers the trophy.
In the book, the USA Today columnist also addressed the controversy surrounding Clark not being selected for a spot on Team USA for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
USA Basketball decided at the time that it didnât want Clark on the team, and instead gave a spot to 42-year-old Diana Taurasi as a kind of going-away present to cap her illustrious career, according to Brennanâs reporting.
Now, nearly two years later and on the cusp of the WNBA regular season start, Clark finds herself at a new inflection point in her career, as she returns to the Fever after missing nearly all of last year with a groin injury.
